Firecrackers banned in Poonch
11/6/2025 10:43:53 PM
Early Times Report

POONCH, Nov 6: The District Magistrate Poonch, Ashok Kumar Sharma (JKAS), on Thursday imposed a complete ban on the sale and use of firecrackers across District Poonch until further orders.
As per the order issued by DM, the Senior Superintendent of Police Poonch had reported that during the ongoing marriage season, the bursting of firecrackers particularly during late evening and night hours may create confusion among Army and security forces, potentially affecting their ability to respond swiftly to any terror-related or firing incident.
Citing security concerns, the District Magistrate has enforced the ban under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS).
The order directs SDMs, Tehsildars, CEO Municipal Council Poonch, EO Municipal Committee Surankote, and the District Information Officer to publicly announce and spread awareness through print and electronic media as well as drum beating in public places, informing people not to use firecrackers during marriage ceremonies or celebrations.
The ban comes into immediate effect, and the DM has stated that the order is issued ex-parte due to urgent security considerations.
The District Magistrate further warned that any violation of the order will attract action under the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, 2023.
