Early Times Report JAMMU, Nov 8: Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University (BGSBU), Rajouri, celebrated the 150th anniversary of the National Song - Vande Mataram with great zeal and national pride. The celebrations included welcome address, brief introduction to the historical and literary significance of Vande Mataram, written by Bankim Chandra Chatterjee in 1875, singing of our National Song-Vande Mataram and listening to the speech of our Prime Minister, Narendra Modi. Adding vibrancy to the celebration, students also presented cultural performances, including patriotic songs, dances and recitations, showcasing the rich diversity and artistic spirit of the University. Their performances beautifully reflected the essence of Vande Mataram. In his message on the occasion, Prof. Jawaid Iqbal, Vice Chancellor, BGSBU, said: "The commemoration of 150 years of Vande Mataram is not merely a remembrance of a song; it is a reaffirmation of our shared heritage and national pride. The timeless words of Bankim Chandra Chatterjee continue to remind us of the power of unity, sacrifice, and love for the motherland and our youth must draw inspiration from this legacy." As part of the commemoration, an Essay Writing Competition and a Quiz Competition were also organized attracting enthusiastic participation from students. The essay competition provided a platform for students to express their reflections on the theme "Vande Mataram - The Spirit of National Unity and Pride", while the quiz competition tested participants' knowledge about India's national symbols, independence movement, and the legacy of Vande Mataram.
