Sports nurture discipline, team spirit among youth: Arvind Gupta

JAMMU, Nov 8: The District Jammu Softball Championship 2025, organised by the District Jammu Softball Association under the aegis of J&K Sports Council, concluded today with great zeal and competitive spirit at GGM Science College Grounds, Jammu.
The final day witnessed the keenly contested matches of Senior Boys and Senior Girls categories, marking the successful completion of the two-day championship.
The closing ceremony was graced by Arvind Gupta, MLA Jammu West as the Chief Guest on the occasion. The event was also attended by Veena Gupta, Chairperson, District Jammu Softball Association, Maninder Singh, President, District Jammu Softball Association, and Anil Angral, Mandal President, BJP, as special guests.
In his address, Chief Guest Arvind Gupta congratulated all the participating teams for their sportsmanship and enthusiasm. He appreciated the efforts of the District Jammu Softball Association for organising such a well-managed and spirited event that encourages youth participation in sports.
He emphasized that sports are essential for the all-round development of youth and help inculcate values of teamwork, discipline, and perseverance. He assured his full support in promoting sports infrastructure and talent development in Jammu region.
Speaking on the occasion, Adv. Pushvinder Singh, District Secretary, District Jammu Softball Association, expressed gratitude to the Chief Guest, dignitaries, and the J&K Sports Council for their encouragement and support.
He lauded the participating players for displaying excellent performance and sportsmanship throughout the championship and reaffirmed the association's commitment to providing more opportunities to budding sportspersons of the district.
Veena Gupta, Chairperson, District Jammu Softball Association, in her address, appreciated the efforts of the organising team and congratulated all the winners and runners-up. She highlighted the importance of women's participation in sports and encouraged young girls to come forward and take up softball and other games at the competitive level.
In the Senior Boys category, Strikers Tejasvi Club emerged as the champion, showcasing remarkable skill and teamwork throughout the tournament. Baba Jitto Club secured the runner-up position after putting up a spirited fight in the final match, while APS Akhnoor claimed the second runner-up spot with an impressive overall performance.
In the Senior Girls category, Tejasvi Club lifted the winner's trophy, displaying exceptional coordination and determination on the field. Evergreen Club earned the runner-up title, demonstrating commendable effort and sportsmanship in their matches.
Following the final matches, medals and trophies were presented to the winners and runners-up by the Chief Guest and other dignitaries amid cheers and applause from the audience. The championship matches were officiated by Pawan Kumar, Ayush Singh, Harvinder Singh Sodi, and Madan Mohan, who ensured fair and smooth conduct of the event.
The two-day championship witnessed participation from 25 teams across various categories, reflecting the growing enthusiasm for softball in Jammu District. The event concluded with a vote of thanks from the organising committee, acknowledging the support of all players, officials, and guests for making the championship a grand success.
