AMRITSAR, Dec 1: Guru Nanak Dev University Vice-Chancellor Professor (Dr.) Karamjeet Singh, while addressing an important meeting with Management Officials of various colleges affiliated to the university in the Senate Hall of Dean College Development Council, said that teachers are the strong pillar of the teacher education system and high-level education cannot be ensured without strengthening it further. He issued clear instructions to the colleges regarding NAAC accreditation, other qualifications, teachers' promotions and financial matters. In the meeting, Dean College Development Council Professor Saroj Bala presented a detailed report on the status of the university's colleges, according to which out of total 81 colleges, there are 31 arts and science, 42 B.Ed. and 8 law colleges. The Vice-Chancellor appealed to the colleges to fulfil their responsibility to enhance financial transparency and academic quality and said that necessary steps should be taken to obtain NAAC accreditation. This strengthens the college's position as well as raises the level of education. He directed that regular appointment of principals in colleges, issues related to provident fund, giving pay scales to staff as per existing rules, ensuring compliance with the rules and university guidelines recorded in the university calendar and as per the rules and regulation of University Grants Commission regarding teachers' promotion cases from time to time, should be ensured. In addition, required staff and teachers should also be appointed. The college President, Secretary and Principals present on the occasion appreciated the meeting.
