| NC MPs deflate Cong’s ‘Vote Chori’ campaign in Rajya Sabha | | Say elections in Jammu and Kashmir were free, fair | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Dec 1: On their very first day in the Rajya Sabha, the three newly elected National Conference (NC) members delivered a sharp rebuttal to the Opposition’s “Vote Chori” campaign, indirectly cornering the Congress despite being part of the INDIA bloc. During his maiden speech in the Upper House on Monday, senior NC leader Choudhary Mohammad Ramzan asserted that the October 2024 Assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir were conducted in a free and fair manner. He said the people of the Union Territory voted overwhelmingly, giving the National Conference a strong mandate. Calling for the restoration of statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, Ramzan emphasised that the 2024 polls marked the first time in many years that an election in the region was held without interference or irregularities. Echoing Ramzan’s remarks, fellow NC MP Sajjad Ahmed Kitchloo also reiterated that the Jammu and Kashmir Assembly elections were transparent, peaceful and credible. The statements come at a time when the Congress and several opposition parties have been creating uproar in Parliament over allegations of “Vote Chori” in recent elections. The NC’s clear stand on the fairness of the J&K polls, however, has effectively punctured the narrative within the alliance ranks. The NC, though a key member of the INDIA alliance, has once again demonstrated its independent political position on issues concerning Jammu and Kashmir. |
