| Over 3,000 agents identified for cheating youth, sending them to Russian Army | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, Jan 29: The Union Government has cautioned unemployed youth against falling prey to illegal recruitment agents offering fake overseas jobs, informing that a total of 3,505 unregistered agents involved in such activities have been flagged on the eMigrate portal till December 2025. Responding to a query in Parliament on whether the government has identified agents, intermediaries or trafficking networks cheating Indian youth by sending them abroad on false job promises — including cases of Indians being illegally sent to serve in the Russian Army — Minister of State for External Affairs Kirti Vardhan Singh said that the Ministry regularly receives information about fraudulent practices by unscrupulous recruitment agents and agencies. He said that such cases usually come to the Ministry’s notice when complaints are filed by affected emigrants or their relatives and friends, as many victims travel abroad on their own through illegal channels and unregistered agents. “The Government of India and the Indian Embassy in Russia have issued advisories cautioning Indian nationals to stay away from any offers to join the Russian Army,” the minister said, adding that t The government has identified agents, intermediaries or trafficking networks cheating Indian youth by sending them abroad on false job promises . Singh said that awareness campaigns on safe and legal migration are conducted across the country through workshops, training programmes, information sessions, digital campaigns and interactions with media, police and law enforcement agencies, local administration, aspiring recruiting agents, entrepreneurs and the general public. During these programmes, stakeholders are informed about emigration regulations and welfare schemes such as the Pravasi Bharatiya Bima Yojana (PBBY), Pre-Departure Orientation Training (PDOT), and the use of the eMigrate portal, besides advisories issued by Indian missions abroad. Job seekers are advised to verify the credentials of recruitment agents before accepting employment offers and to avoid illegal channels. The minister also said that the Government of India remains engaged, including at the highest levels, with the Government of the Russian Federation to ensure the safety, well-being and early discharge of all Indian nationals currently serving in the Russian armed forces. |
