| Gupta terms budget 2026-27 progressive, people-centric | | | Early Times Report JAMMU, Feb 6: The Provincial President Jammu of the Jammu and Kashmir National Conference, Rattan Lal Gupta, today welcomed the Annual Budget for the financial year 2026-27, presented by Hon'ble Chief Minister Omar Abdullah, describing it as a progressive, people-centric and development-oriented financial roadmap that lays a strong foundation for long-term, sustainable and inclusive growth across all sectors. In a statement issued from the party's Provincial Headquarters, Sher-e- Kashmir Bhavan, Jammu, Rattan Lal Gupta said that the Budget 2026-27 reflects the government's firm commitment to public welfare, social equity and economic resilience, with a clear emphasis on strengthening human capital and improving service delivery. He noted that education and healthcare remain at the core of the budgetary priorities, with enhanced allocations aimed at upgrading and augmenting existing health infrastructure across all districts to ensure access to both routine and specialised medical care. The proposed establishment of trauma centres at Poonch and Uri and targeted investments in health services will significantly improve emergency response and healthcare outcomes. Gupta further appreciated the government's focus on social security and welfare measures, including free education, provision of six LPG cylinders annually for Antyodaya Anna Yojana (AAY) families, and sustained investments in infrastructure, public services and governance reforms, which are crucial for balanced regional development. Highlighting the measures for the agrarian economy, he said that the budget's emphasis on crop insurance schemes, expansion of storage facilities, continued and expanded coverage under the Kisan Credit Card scheme, and support to allied sectors will strengthen farmers' financial security and enhance rural livelihoods. The Provincial President also lauded the renewed focus on sports development and tourism, terming them as key growth engines with high employment potential. Special attention to tourism, he said, will help position Jammu and Kashmir as a year-round destination, boosting local economies and creating sustainable job opportunities. Gupta concluded that the Budget 2026-27 is a visionary and fiscally responsible document that balances welfare commitments with growth-oriented investments, reinforcing the National Conference government's resolve to steer Jammu and Kashmir towards economic stability, social progress and inclusive prosperity. While welcoming the budget, Gupta also urged the Union Home Minister, Shri Amit Shah Ji, who is currently on a visit to Jammu and Kashmir, to honour the commitment made to the people by restoring the promised statehood to Jammu and Kashmir at the earliest. He said that the restoration of statehood is not merely a political demand but a legitimate democratic aspiration of the people, essential for strengthening federalism and democratic governance. |
