| 2 Pakistanis arrested in Ambala, gangster ‘Gugga’ on the run | | RS Pura juvenile home escape | | Atul Sharma Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 17: In a swift and coordinated operation, the Special Task Force (STF) of Haryana Police, in collaboration with the Jammu and Kashmir Police, arrested two Pakistani nationals within 24 hours of their dramatic escape from the Juvenile Observation Home in RS Pura, Jammu. The accused were apprehended from the premises of Ambala Railway Station in Haryana following specific intelligence inputs regarding their movement. Haryana STF SP Vikrant Bhushan and DSP Aman said the breakthrough came after heightened surveillance was mounted at the railway station. The duo was intercepted after their movements were found to be suspicious. The arrested individuals have been identified as Mohammad Sana-ullah (20) and Ahsan Anwar (21), both residents of Pakistan. According to officials, one of them had been lodged in the juvenile home since 2019 and the other since 2021. After completing necessary formalities, both were handed over to the Jammu and Kashmir Police for further legal action and in-depth interrogation. The third escapee, Karamjeet Singh alias Gugga, a resident of Dablehar and described as the mastermind behind the conspiracy, remains absconding. Investigators believe he orchestrated the escape and was allegedly planning to facilitate the Pakistani nationals’ exit from India through the Nepal border via Uttar Pradesh. Alerts have been sounded across multiple states to trace him. The escape had triggered a massive security alert on Monday evening after the trio allegedly attacked on-duty personnel at around 5:05 pm and fled the facility. The entire incident was reportedly captured on CCTV cameras. The inmates are also suspected of fleeing with a pistol. During the attack, SPO Vinay Kumar and Head Constable Parveen Kumar sustained injuries and were shifted for medical treatment. Following the incident, six police personnel, including an Assistant Sub-Inspector, were suspended for alleged dereliction of duty pending a departmental inquiry into security lapses. A case has been registered under various provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita, including attempt to murder, assault on a public servant, escape from lawful custody, organised crime, and relevant sections of the Arms Act. Senior police officers visited the scene as special teams launched raids at multiple locations to track down the remaining accused. Investigators are also probing how the inmates allegedly managed to procure a country-made pistol inside a high-security facility. Officials termed the arrest of the two Pakistani nationals a “major success,” expressing confidence that the third accused would be apprehended soon as joint operations between Haryana and Jammu and Kashmir Police continue. |
