| Important course on handling of digital evidence held | | | Early Times Report UDHAMPUR, Feb 17: An important course on "Handling of Digital Evidence" was held at Sher-i- Kashmir Police Academy Udhampur in which officers and officials from various wings of Jammu and Kashmir police participated and gained knowledge about how to collect, preserve and present digital evidence in accordance with law. Digital evidence, ranging from e-mails and cloud-stored documents to mobile device data and network logs, plays a pivotal role in criminal investigations, regulatory inquiries and internal organizational reviews. The course was specifically designed to enhance professional competence in addressing emerging digital threats and tackling complex crime committed adopting digital modes. At the valedictory ceremony, SSP Benam Tosh, Deputy Director SKPAU congratulated the participants for undergoing the valuable course held under the aegis of PHQ J&K and highlighted the growing challenges in the digital world stressing the importance of reinforcing protocols aligned with globally recognized standards, including principles outlined by the International Organization for Standardization (ISO) and National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST). He underscored the importance of integrity, security and proper management of digital evidence for ensuring justice, regulatory compliance, and organizational accountability. He further cautioned that mishandling digital evidence can compromise investigations, weaken legal proceedings and erode public trust. Dr. Kumar Sourabh Deputy Director Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) Jammu, Dr. Arvind Selwal Asstt. Professor Department of Computer Science and Information Technology Central University, Jammu and officers from ACB and Cyber Police Station Jammu were among those who delivered valuable and highly informative lectures during the course. Senior Prosecuting officer Amit Parkash Sehgal functioned as Course Director assisted by Balbir Singh for the conduct of the course. |
