Prakash Babu's first year in office on March 17, 2026-Pondicherry University announces the launch of the "Pondicherry University Distinguished Lecture Series" throughout the year. This visionary initiative aims to enhance the University's worldwide standing by bringing world-renowned experts to inspire students, foster intellectual discourse, and engage a broad audience with cutting-edge global ideas. The Distinguished Lecture Series is envisioned as a premier intellectual platform that will bring to the University world-renowned thought leaders from across diverse fields of knowledge. Eminent scholars and innovators who have made lasting contributions to their respective disciplines will be invited to deliver lectures designed for a broad academic and public audience. Through this initiative, Pondicherry University aims to foster meaningful engagement with cutting-edge ideas and global perspectives. The University envisions the Pondicherry University Distinguished Lecture Series evolving into a prestigious academic brand comparable to those of leading institutions worldwide, recognized for hosting speakers of exceptional stature and for the intellectual impact of their lectures. The inaugural lecture in the series will be delivered by Dr. Virander Singh Chauhan, an internationally acclaimed biotechnology expert, on the topic "Vaccines: Science, Access, and the Politics of Protection." Prof. Chauhan played a pioneering role in the development of India's first recombinant malaria vaccine and was awarded the Padma Shri in recognition of his significant contributions to science and human resource development. A Rhodes Scholar, he has served as the Chairman of the University Grants Commission (UGC) and the National Assessment and Accreditation Council (NAAC). He is also the former Director of the International Centre for Genetic Engineering and Biotechnology (ICGEB), New Delhi. The inaugural lecture will be held on March 17, 2026, at 11:00 AM at the Mahakavi Subramania Bharathi International Convention Centre, Pondicherry University.
