Early Times Report
JAMMU, Apr 10: The Modi-led Union Government has continued the practice started in 2015 by declaring Dr. B. R. Ambedkar's birth anniversary as a public holiday this year as well.
BJP spokesperson and former Vice Chairman Balbir Ram Rattan said this. He said that under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, the Government of India has ensured uniform and nationwide recognition of Ambedkar Jayanti by declaring it a public holiday. This reflects the government's deep respect for the architect of the Indian Constitution and his enduring legacy.
Balbir Ram Rattan said that although Ambedkar Jayanti had earlier been observed in different parts of the country and was a holiday in several states, it was the Modi government that institutionalized and standardized its observance across India. He said that by consistently declaring April 14 as a nationwide public holiday, the government has further honoured Babasaheb Ambedkar's contribution to nation-building.
He added that since 2015, the Department of Personnel and Training (DoP&T) has been issuing annual notifications declaring April 14 as a public holiday for central government offices and institutions. This step has brought uniformity across the country and strengthened the importance of observing Ambedkar Jayanti at the national level.
Balbir said that Dr. Ambedkar's ideals of social justice, equality, and empowerment of the marginalized continue to guide the policies and vision of the present government. He noted that the consistent nationwide observance of Ambedkar Jayanti is not merely symbolic but a reaffirmation of the government's commitment to uphold the values enshrined in the Constitution.
Highlighting various initiatives taken in honour of Dr. Ambedkar, Balbir said that the Modi government has continuously worked to preserve and promote his legacy through the development of memorials, promotion of his teachings, and welfare measures aimed at uplifting weaker sections of society.
He also called upon people to draw inspiration from Dr. Ambedkar's life and work and contribute towards building an inclusive and progressive society. Balbir said that the recognition of Ambedkar Jayanti as a national public holiday reminds us of our collective responsibility to carry forward his vision of an equitable India.
Reiterating the BJP's commitment to the ideals of Babasaheb, Balbir Ram Rattan urged citizens to observe the day with dedication and respect and to strengthen their resolve towards social harmony and national unity.
