6 drug peddlers arrested, over 3.7 kg narcotics seized

Anantnag, Apr 19: Intensifying its war against drugs, Anantnag Police on Sunday registered three cases and arrested six drug peddlers in separate operations, recovering over 3.7 kilograms of narcotics along with cash amounting to ₹10,450.
In a statement, Continuing its sustained crackdown against drug trafficking, Anantnag Police achieved major success with the arrest of six persons and seizure of over 3.7 kg of narcotics along with cash ₹10,450 recovered in three separate operations.
PS Anantnag: During naka checking at Danter, four persons coming towards Anantnag town attempted to flee on seeing the police party but were tactfully apprehended. Search led to recovery of 3.178 kg ganja powder-like substance and cash ₹10,450. The accused have been identified as Shabir Qayoom S/o Abdul Qayoom Deva R/o Cheeni Chowk Anantnag, Zahid Manzoor S/o Manzoor Ahmed Mir R/o Hassanpora Bagh A/P Kha Bazar Anantnag, Faizan Lone S/o Nazir Ahmad Lone R/o Mir-Danter Anantnag. One accused, Gowher Reshi R/o Danter, managed to flee. Case registered and investigation underway.
PP Sangam: A police party during naka checking at Marhama Crossing intercepted a Swift vehicle bearing registration number JK04J-5556. Two occupants, Mohammad Tufail Hajam S/o Abdul Salaam Hajam and Mushtaq Ahmad Khanday S/o Mohammad Sidiq Khanday, both residents of Badipora Chadoora, were apprehended. Search of the vehicle yielded 3.29 grams brown sugar-like substance and 7.88 grams charas-like substance. FIR No. 97/2026 under sections 8/20/21/29 NDPS Act has been registered at the concerned police station.
PS Bijbehara: During naka checking at Doodhnad Waghama, Javaid Ahmad Mantoo S/o Wali Mohammad Mantoo R/o Waghama Bijbehara was apprehended and 468 grams of charas powder was recovered from his possession. Case FIR No. 98/2026 under section 8/20 NDPS Act stands registered.
Anantnag Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy towards the drug menace, stating that strict action against peddlers and smugglers will continue to safeguard the youth and society. The general public has been requested to cooperate with police and share information regarding drug peddling in their areas, assuring that the identity of informers will be kept confidential.
