While ongoing Nasha Mukt J&K Abhiyan, Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha announced the launch of two innovative pillars under the campaign- the Community Immunization Program against drugs and the Family Fortress Initiative. He urged schools, mosques, temples, gurdwaras, and NGOs to dedicate one hour weekly to strengthen the anti-drug campaign initiative through awareness. It will deliver real results, acting like an early warning system, monitoring hotspots while building them into fully drug-free zones. He described Family Fortress Initiative, as the second pillar which will rely on the strong family and community bonds for the ultimate shield against drug addiction. Pertinently, the drug addiction has emerged as one of the gravest social challenges of our time, affecting not just individuals but entire communities. It robs youth of their potential, shatters families, and weakens the social fabric. Jammu and Kashmir, like many other regions, has witnessed growing concerns over substance abuse, making it imperative to adopt a comprehensive and preventive strategy. The Lieutenant Governor’s latest initiatives signal a decisive shift from reactive measures to proactive prevention. The Community Immunization Program is a visionary step that treats society as the first line of defence against drug abuse. By urging schools, mosques, temples, gurdwaras, and non-governmental organizations to dedicate one hour every week to anti-drug awareness, the administration is creating a grassroots movement that can foster collective vigilance. Such awareness sessions can act as an early warning system by identifying vulnerable individuals and hotspots before addiction takes deeper root. More importantly, they can transform neighbourhoods into informed, alert, and resilient communities that reject the drug culture outright. Religious institutions and educational centres hold immense influence in shaping moral and social values. Their involvement ensures that anti-drug messaging reaches people with credibility and emotional resonance. Equally significant is the Family Fortress Initiative, which rightly recognizes the family as the strongest shield against addiction. Families are often the first to notice behavioural changes, emotional distress, or signs of dependency. By empowering parents and guardians with awareness and support mechanisms, the initiative seeks to transform homes into spaces of trust, communication, and protection. Strong family bonds provide emotional security, reducing the likelihood of young people turning to harmful substances in moments of stress or isolation. This initiative also carries a vital reminder: prevention begins at home. Parents must engage openly with their children, understand their struggles, and provide guidance without fear or judgment. Building emotional resilience within families can prove more effective than any punitive measure. |
