SSP Traffic concludes three days' tour of Rajouri-Poonch

JAMMU, May 13: Senior Superintendent of Police Traffic (Rural) Jammu Farooq Qaiser today concluded a three-day tour of Rajouri-Poonch region aimed at assessing the on-ground traffic management scenario and allied issues in the area.
During the course of tour, 02 Road Safety Awareness Programmes were held to promote road safety among students. One such event was organized at Govt. Model Higher Secondary School (Boys) Thanamandi which was attended by Vice Principal Sh. Amjad Islam, school staff, around 90-100 students and local residents. Similar event was also held at Govt. Higher Secondary School Samote, Budhal which was attended by the Principal of the institution Sh. Khaliq Choudhary, school staff and approximately 300-350 students. SHO P/S Budhal and concerned DTI/SOs (Traffic) were also present on the occasion. During the sessions, participants were briefed about the origin, role and responsibilities of the Traffic Police and were advised to desist from minor driving as it is not only a violation of law but has been made stringent by making parents or guardians culpable. Students and members of the public were urged to use protective gear while driving, refrain from Stunt Driving and strictly follow traffic rules/regulations to prevent accidents. The participants were briefed in particular about national and UT level schemes applicable for providing compensation and free medical treatment to the victims of road accidents viz. PM RAHAT Scheme-2026, Hit & Run Motor Accident Compensation Scheme-2022 and J&K Road Accident Victims Fund Rules, 2022. They were also made to know about "Good Samaritans" concept so that people are encouraged to help the road accident victims during golden hour.
Subsequently, a review of the road conditions and traffic scenario on Mughal Road was conducted. Sites of recent fatal road accidents were inspected and analyzed. Necessary action to enhance safety of passengers on the said road will be initiated in coordination with the concerned Authorities in near future.
Besides these programmes, a series of interaction sessions were conducted with Traffic Police personnel deployed in the area. One of such sessions was held at DPL Rajouri where the present manpower of Traffic Police was sensitized and briefed appropriately. Necessary directions were issued to ensure effective implementation of road safety measures and to take strict action against traffic violators.
