Early Times Report REASI, May 13: Exposure visit of students from PM Shri Govt. High School, Khanikote, Reasi organised here at Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK), Reasi of Sher-e-Kashmir University of Agricultural Sciences and Technology of Jammu. The programme was organised under the dynamic leadership of Hon'ble Vice Chancellor, Prof.B.N. Tripathi and able guidance of Director Extension, Prof.Amrish Vaid of SKUAST-J. Dr. Banarsi Lal, Chief Scientist & Head, KVK Reasi guided participants on modern farming. He also spoke on organic and natural farming so as to produce the safe and healthy food by reducing the cost of cultivation. He also guided participants on various new innovations in agriculture. Earlier Dr. Sudhir Singh Jamwal, Scientist warmly welcomed the participants and sensitized them about the basic knowledge of agriculture. He stated that more than majority of the population is still engaged in agriculture and making it a major contributor to the GDP of the nation. He emphasized the need to shift towards natural farming considering the ill effects of excessive use of chemical fertilizers and insecticides. He also stressed the importance of conserving biodiversity for sustainable agriculture. Dr.Mandeep Singh Azad, Scientist explained the scientific techniques involved in livestock rearing. He highlighted that poultry farming and goat rearing can be profitable ventures for farmers of hilly regions having small land holdings. He also sensitized the students about the latest breeds of cattle and poultry. Prominent attendees who participated in the programme were school teachers namely Sh.Uttam Singh, Sh.Mukhtiar Singh, Sh. Ajit Singh, Sh.Kuldeep Singh and Smt.Radha Devi. They appreciated the role of KVK Reasi for the welfare of the farmers and abreasting the students with the latest technologies. Students also visited various units such as hydroponics unit, high tech polyhouse unit, nano kitchen garden, natural farming unit, beekeeping unit etc. established at KVK Reasi and asked various quarries which were answered satisfactorily by the scientists. The programme was assisted by Dr.Jagdish Kumar and Sh.Manohar Lal and concluded by Dr.Sudhir Singh Jamwal with a formal vote of thanks. |
