Reasi police seizes large quantity of tobacco products on SMVD track; one shopkeepr booked

REASI, May 13: Under the supervision of SSP Reasi Sh. Mukund Tibrewal, IPS, District Police Reasi, under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu Kashmir Abhiyan, intensified its drive against the illegal sale of tobacco products on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Track.
During routine naka checking and patrolling near Bathing Ghat No. 02 under the jurisdiction of Police Post Banganga, a police party noticed a shopkeeper allegedly selling bidi, cigarettes and other tobacco products. Acting promptly, the police conducted a search of the shop and recovered a large quantity of tobacco-related items including cigarettes, chewing tobacco, bidi bundles and various prohibited tobacco products.
During the operation, approximately 450 cigarettes, nearly 1000 packets of chewing tobacco and around 900 packets of different tobacco products were seized.
The accused, identified as Ajay Kumar S/o Satpal R/o Manoh, Tehsil Akhnoor, District Jammu, presently working as a shopkeeper at Bathing Ghat No. 02, was apprehended on the spot. As the accused failed to provide any satisfactory explanation regarding the possession and sale of the seized items, a case FIR No. 146/2026 under Section 223(a) BNS has been registered and investigation has been initiated.
The entire operation was carried out by SHO P/S Katra Insp. Ranjeet Singh Rao, under the close supervision of SDPO Katra Dr. Bhishm Dubey, JKPS, and SP Katra Kameshwar Puri, JKPS.
District Police Reasi reiterates its commitment towards curbing illegal activities and ensuring a safe and healthy environment for pilgrims and the general public.
