| At UN, India exposes Pakistan’s double game on terrorism | | | Early Times Report
Jammu, May 28: India mounted a scathing attack on Pakistan at the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), accusing Islamabad of openly nurturing cross-border terrorism and using extremist groups as instruments of state policy while pretending to advocate peace and regional stability on global platforms.
Speaking during the UNSC Open Debate on international peace and security, India’s Permanent Representative to the United Nations, Harish Parvathaneni, said Pakistan’s repeated attempts to portray itself as a victim of terrorism stood exposed before the world in view of its long record of sponsoring and sheltering terror groups operating against India.
In a strongly worded intervention, the Indian envoy declared that Pakistan’s strategy of “bleeding India by a thousand cuts” through proxy terror networks has been responsible for decades of instability and violence in the region.
He asserted that Islamabad cannot escape accountability by making “misleading narratives” at international forums while continuing to provide ideological, logistical and financial support to terror outfits.
“Pakistan must realise that there are consequences to pursuing terrorism as an instrument of state policy,” the envoy said, while underlining that India has every right to defend its citizens against terror attacks emanating from across the border.
India used the global platform at the United Nations to expose what it described as Pakistan’s “double standards” on terrorism. The Indian representative highlighted that countries preaching peace and dialogue cannot simultaneously harbour terrorists, glorify extremist elements or allow their territory to be used for cross-border attacks.
Without mincing words, Ambassador Parvathaneni reminded the Security Council that the world has repeatedly witnessed the presence of internationally designated terrorists operating freely from Pakistani soil. He stressed that the issue was no longer confined to bilateral tensions between India and Pakistan but had emerged as a serious challenge to international peace and security.
The Indian envoy said that terrorism remains one of the gravest threats facing humanity and emphasised that selective approaches towards terror groups only embolden extremist networks. He called upon the international community to adopt a zero-tolerance policy against terrorism and ensure that countries supporting terror infrastructure are held accountable under international law.
India also underscored that sovereignty and territorial integrity cannot coexist with the export of terrorism. Referring to the principles enshrined in the United Nations Charter, the envoy stated that no nation has the right to interfere in the internal affairs of another country through violence, radicalisation or proxy warfare.
The remarks are being viewed as a clear signal that New Delhi intends to continue aggressively raising the issue of Pakistan-sponsored terrorism at international forums. Over the years, India has repeatedly presented evidence linking Pakistan-based terror outfits to major attacks carried out on Indian soil, including incidents in Jammu and Kashmir and other parts of the country.
Diplomatic observers noted that India’s statement at the UNSC reflects growing frustration over continued attempts by Pakistan to internationalise bilateral issues while avoiding scrutiny over its own terror record. By directly confronting Islamabad at the United Nations, India sought to reinforce the global narrative that terrorism and diplomacy cannot go hand in hand.
The latest exchange at the Security Council comes amid continuing concerns over regional security and the activities of extremist organisations in South Asia. India has consistently maintained that meaningful peace in the region is impossible unless Pakistan takes credible, irreversible and verifiable action against terror groups operating from its territory.
New Delhi further asserted that the fight against terrorism requires genuine international cooperation and not political convenience. India urged the United Nations and member states to strengthen mechanisms aimed at choking terror financing, dismantling safe havens and preventing the misuse of global platforms for spreading propaganda and disinformation.
By forcefully articulating its position at the UNSC, India once again attempted to expose Pakistan’s terror links before the international community and reiterate its resolve to combat terrorism in all forms and manifestations. |
