| Strengthen Rahul's hands to fight communal forces: Advocate Bhardwaj | | Congresspersons' Conference | | Early Times Report
Purmandal, May 31: Working President (Acting) of Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress and senior Advocate Mohinder Bhardwaj has said that every committed Congressperson should actively respond to Leader of Opposition Mr Rahul Gandhi's call and efforts to strengthen the organisation at all levels. Mr Gandhi had started this process in a grand fashion by embarking on a nationwide Bharat Jodo Yatra which was also aimed at rejuvenating the Congress by connecting with leaders and workers on ground-zero. Addressing a well-attended day-long conference of the Congresspersons and the party's sympathisers, he said this event is aimed at taking forward Mr Gandhi's endeavour and preparing the party for coming challenges for which he has been leading the party from the front. The immediate challenge before us is the coming Panchayat and civic body elections in Jammu and Kashmir and strengthen our fight for restoration of statehood which was taken away from us by the BJP government led by Mr Narendra Modi. Apart from an impressive gathering, the conference was attended by former PCC chief and Congress Working Committee Member, Mr Vikar Rasool Wani, former Speaker and deputy chief minister, Mr Tara Chand and former minister, Dr Manohar Lal. They all expressed and stressed the need to unite and fight the government which has led the people of the country down in all fronts. "Let me point out that it was due to Jammu and Kashmir leadership’s weaknesses that Congress could not do well in the last assembly elections and had to play a poor second fiddle to the National Conference in the ruling coalition. There were blackspots right from the selection of candidates to conducting an effective campaign and finally to run a cohesive alliance. We lost an opportunity to win a good number of seats in the Jammu region by defeating the BJP on account of these factors. Instead of being in the driver's seat, Congress has been lurching the backdrop," Mr Bhardwaj said, adding: "It is the bounden duty of all of us to strengthen Mr Gandhi's hands in fight against communal and destructive forces." He congratulated Mr Gandhi for smooth change of leadership in Karnataka. This is a reflection of Rahul ji's matured leadership and his positive intent and thereby proving the prophets of doom wrong, he added. Mr Bhardwaj rued that despite BJP having won majority of the seats in Jammu region and a National Conference at the helm, Jammu particularly the border areas are suffering due to overall neglect. "Why are the BJP MLAs silent on this neglect? Why do not they collectively move and force the Centre and their proxy in J and K, the Lt Governor to do justice with Jammu? Have they forgotten that people of Jammu have repeatedly voted for BJP on false promises, which never fulfilled, and emotive issues? Addressing the conference, Mr Wani said the purpose of the Congress entering into an alliance with National Conference to keep the BJP and its allied forces at a bay, has been defeated due to mishandling by vested interests of a coterie in the PCC. "Right from entering into alliance to the present day the situation has gone from bad to worse with Congress suffering a lot. It is the right time for the party high command to have a close look into the entire affair including the running of the organisation," he added. Mr. Wani announced that the people of Jammu and Kashmir shall unite and strengthen the Indian National Congress which is the only viable alternative to the BJP. Congress alone is capable of solving the problems of people of the country and to maintain communal harmony, peace and tranquility. Former Deputy chief minister, Tara Chand said that he has been making all efforts to strengthen the organisation as per directions of Mr Kharge and Mr Gandhi. In this relation, he referred to the impressive worker' conferences organised by him in Akhnoor division recently. He gave a clarion call to the partymen to pull up their socks and prepare for the coming civic and panchayat elections. Even the assembly elections might take place sooner than expected, he added. |
