SHIMLA, June 11: Bhupender Gupta, Chairman and Managing Director and Sh. Ajay Kumar Sharma, Director (Personnel), congratulated Rajesh Kumar Chandel on assuming charge as Director (Projects) of SJVN, a Navratna CPSE under the Ministry of Power, Government of India.
Parthajit De, Director (Finance) and Pankaj Porwal, CVO and other senior officials of SJVN welcomed Rajesh Kumar Chandel at SJVN's Liaison Office, New Delhi, today.
Chandel is presently serving as OSD to CMD, SJVN. Prior to this, he served as the Chief Executive Officer of SJVN Arun-3 Power Development Company Pvt. Ltd. (SAPDC) and SJVN Lower Arun Power Development Company Private Limited (SLPDC), both SJVN's wholly owned subsidiaries in Nepal, overseeing 900 MW Arun-3 Hydro Electric Project and 669 MW Lower Arun Hydro Electric Project since October 2025.
With over 35 years' experience in the power sector, specializing in hydro power, Rajesh Chandel excels in project conceptualization, planning, execution, monitoring and international coordination across India, Nepal and Bhutan. He demonstrates strong leadership, interpersonal skills, networking and technical expertise essential in execution of complex power projects.
Previously, as Managing Director and Member Secretary of Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Power Authority (PHPA-II) in Bhutan, Chandel was instrumental in commissioning of the 1020 MW Punatsangchhu Hydro Electric Project. In 2020, he led 66 MW Dhaulasidh Hydro Electric Project from concept to construction as Head of Project.
Rajesh Kumar Chandel contributed nearly eight years in construction of Head Race Tunnel of 1500 MW Nathpa Jhakri Hydro Power Station in Himachal Pradesh. He has held various roles at Corporate Headquarters with stints in Corporate Monitoring & Coordination Department, Corporate Facility Management Department and Office of Director (Civil). He began his career in 1990 in HIMUDA and later joined SJVN on May 5, 1994.
Born on September 14, 1971, in Mahre village, Hamirpur District, Himachal Pradesh, Chandel is Graduate in Civil Engineering and holds Master's degree in Business Administration. He is a Fellow of The Institution of Engineers (India), Kolkata and Chartered Engineer as well. He has completed his early education at Government High School, Tauni Devi, Hamirpur. He is married to Smt. Daljeet Chandel and they have a son, Rohit Chandel.
