Early Times Report
JAMMU, June 11: Delivering on a long-standing commitment to the residents of Mazdoor Basti, MLA Jammu West Arvind Gupta today inaugurated the construction and improvement work of a major nallah in Ward No. 13 at an estimated cost of Rs 5.30 crore, bringing an end to a civic issue that had remained unresolved for nearly three decades.
The project, dedicated to the people of Mazdoor Basti, aims to permanently address chronic drainage problems, waterlogging and sanitation concerns that have plagued the locality for over 30 years. During heavy rains, residents often witnessed flood-like situations, causing immense hardship to families and posing serious health and safety risks.
Addressing a large gathering, Arvind Gupta said the project represents the fulfillment of a promise he had made to the people and reflects his commitment to resolving long-pending civic issues through sustained efforts and public representation.
He recalled that the issue was repeatedly taken up with the concerned departments and was also forcefully raised by him in the Jammu & Kashmir Legislative Assembly to secure approval and funding for the much-needed project.
"For nearly 30 years, the people of Mazdoor Basti suffered due to inadequate drainage infrastructure. During every spell of heavy rainfall, the area would witness flood-like conditions, causing immense inconvenience and damage. I had assured the residents that this issue would be resolved and consistently pursued the matter at every level. Today, I am pleased that this commitment has been fulfilled and work has finally begun on the ground," Gupta said.
He stated that the upgraded nallah will significantly improve drainage facilities, prevent water accumulation, enhance sanitation standards and improve the overall quality of life for thousands of residents living in the area.
The MLA further said that while the nallah project marks the fulfillment of one major promise, another important commitment made to the residents, providing tap water connectivity to every household is also being actively pursued and will be achieved soon.
"Every household deserves access to clean drinking water. We are working in a mission mode to ensure that no family is left without a tap water connection. Along with better drainage, roads and sanitation, this will greatly improve living conditions in the area," he added.
Residents of Mazdoor Basti expressed gratitude to the MLA for taking up their decades-old issue and ensuring its sanction. They said the project would provide long-awaited relief from recurring waterlogging and flooding concerns that had troubled generations of local residents.
Prominent BJP leaders and local representatives present on the occasion included Mandal President Kushant Prajapati, General Secretary Mohit Vaid and Mandal Vice President Sonu Manhas, besides party workers and a large number of local residents.
The project is part of the ongoing developmental initiatives being undertaken across Jammu West under the leadership of Arvind Gupta, with a focus on strengthening civic infrastructure and improving the quality of life for residents.
