Cyber Crime and Online Fraud: The New Age Threat
6/11/2026 10:23:04 PM
Amanpreet Kour

In today’s modern world, technology has changed the way we live. The internet has made many things easier, such as online banking, shopping, studying, and communication. People can now complete many tasks with just a few clicks. However, along with these advantages, the problem of cyber crime and online fraud has also increased rapidly.
Cyber crime means crimes that are committed using computers, mobile phones, or the internet. It includes hacking, stealing personal information, fake online websites, identity theft, and financial scams. Online fraud is one of the most common cyber crimes where criminals cheat people by using fake calls, messages, emails, or links.
Many people become victims of online fraud because they are not aware of cyber safety rules. Fraudsters often pretend to be bank officials, company representatives, or government officers and ask for personal details like account numbers, passwords, and OTPs. After getting this information, they can steal money or misuse personal data.
The increasing use of social media and digital payments has also created new opportunities for cyber criminals. Young people, elderly citizens, and people who are less familiar with technology are often targeted. Cyber crime not only causes financial loss but can also affect a person’s privacy and create stress.
To protect ourselves from cyber threats, we should always be careful while using the internet. We should create strong passwords, avoid opening unknown links, download apps only from trusted sources, and never share confidential information with strangers. Awareness and digital education can help people stay safe online.
The government and cyber crime departments are working to control such crimes and spread awareness among citizens. Reporting cyber fraud quickly can help in taking action against criminals.
Technology is a powerful tool that has made our lives easier, but it also comes with risks. By using the internet responsibly and staying alert, we can protect ourselves from cyber crime and make the digital world safer for everyone.
