JALANDHAR, June 18: Two cadets from Lovely Professional University (LPU) have brought laurels to the university and the nation by securing selection for the prestigious Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) 2026 of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), Ministry of Defence, Government of India. The selected cadets, Saksham Sharma, a B.Tech CSE student, and Amod Kumar Singh, a B.Tech CSE student, will represent India in the United Kingdom and Peru, as part of official NCC youth delegations.
The Youth Exchange Programme is among the most prestigious international initiatives of the NCC, providing outstanding cadets an opportunity to serve as youth ambassadors of India. Through cultural interactions, leadership engagements, educational visits, and international collaborations, the programme strengthens mutual understanding and friendship among participating nations while giving cadets invaluable global exposure.
The selection for the Youth Exchange Programme (YEP) is among the most competitive opportunities within the National Cadet Corps, with cadets undergoing a rigorous national-level evaluation that includes performance at the Republic Day Camp, leadership assessments, service and common subject examinations, group discussions, interviews, and multiple rounds of scrutiny by the Directorate General NCC. Only a select few of India's most accomplished cadets earn the distinction of representing the nation on international platforms each year.
Emerging from this highly competitive process, LPU's NCC cadets Saksham Sharma and Amod Kumar Singh secured their places in the YEP 2026 delegations to Peru and the United Kingdom, respectively. Their selection reflects years of dedication, discipline, and outstanding performance across various national level NCC activities. Through the Youth Exchange Programme, both cadets will engage with young leaders from around the world, promote India's rich cultural heritage and values, and gain valuable international exposure to diverse perspectives on leadership, community service, and nation building.
LPU continues to be proactive in promoting NCC participation, by regularly organising training camps and leadership programmes that provide students valuable exposure in discipline, military training, leadership and nation building. The university recently organised Combined Annual Training Camp (CATC-35) in association with 8 Punjab Battalion NCC, Phagwara where cadets were subjected to rigorous training in drill, firing, physical fitness, weapon handling and field craft. These initiatives are a reflection of LPU's commitment to groom confident, responsible and globally aware young leaders who can represent the nation with distinction on international platforms. |
