Early Times Report

Samba, June 18: In a major breakthrough against organized crime, Samba Police on Thursday busted an inter-state gang of hardcore criminals allegedly involved in extortion activities across Jammu and Kashmir and Punjab, arresting six members and recovering a cache of arms and ammunition. According to police, the gang was operating under the directions of incarcerated gangster Rohit Kumar alias Makhan and was engaged in extortion rackets in both states. The gang’s involvement had also surfaced during the investigation into a recent daylight shooting incident in Chandigarh in which a pharmacy worker was killed.
Police said one of the key accused in the case, Amit Kumar alias Sharabi, was among those arrested. Investigations revealed that Rohit Kumar alias Makhan had been working in association with several Punjab-based gangsters and played a pivotal role in organizing the gang for various criminal activities.
The arrested accused have been identified as Amit Kumar alias Sharabi of Samba, Ajay Kumar of Samba, Manik Sanhotra of Ramgarh in Samba district, Vivek Mehra of Chak Manga Rakwal, Samba, Sunny Mehra of Badhori in Bari Brahmana, Samba, and Aryan Sharma of Kunjwani, Jammu.
Police said that Sunny Mehra and Aryan Sharma, who had been arrested earlier, have already been handed over to Chandigarh Police in connection with the investigation there.
During the operation, police recovered a significant quantity of arms and ammunition on the disclosure of the accused. The seized items include one AK-47 magazine, 38 rounds of AK-47 ammunition, 10 pistol rounds, two country-made pistols, one desi katta, one toka (sharp-edged weapon), and cash amounting to Rs 18,000.
