Early Times Report REASI, June 18: Continuing its sustained efforts against drug trafficking and substance abuse under the ongoing Nasha Mukt Jammu & Kashmir Abhiyan, Reasi Police apprehended a drug peddler and recovered heroin from his possession during patrolling on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Track. On the late night of 16.06.2026, a police team of Police Post Banganga was conducting routine patrolling on the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Track. At about 9:45 PM, when the police party reached Charan Paduka, two suspected person was noticed moving from Banganga towards Charan Paduka who attempted to flee from the spot after being stopped by police .The alert police personnel chased them and successfully apprehended one of the suspects, while the other managed to escape. During questioning, the apprehended individual disclosed his identity as Ranjeet Singh S/o Mangat Ram R/o Rajgarh, Tehsil Rajgarh, District Ramban, presently residing at Purana Daroor, Katra, District Reasi. He further revealed that the person who fled from the spot was Sunny S/o Joginder Singh R/o Purana Daroor, Tehsil Katra, District Reasi. During the personal search of Ranjeet Singh, a white-coloured polythene packet was recovered from the right pocket of his trousers. Upon examination, the packet was found to contain approximately 5 grams of heroin (Chitta). Accordingly, FIR No. 194/2026 under Sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at Police Station Katra and further investigation has been taken up to ascertain the source and network involved in the illicit drug trade. Reasi Police remains committed to its zero-tolerance policy against narcotics and appeals to the public to cooperate in making society drug-free by sharing information regarding drug-related activities with the police. |
