Peerzada Umar Early Times Report SRINAGAR, July 16: The Modi government has kept all and sundry in J&K guessing about the mega economic package likely to be given to the state. On ground there seems to be chaos, with contradictory statements being issued by leaders of various political parties. The first to go to town was Finance Minister Haseeb Drabu who declared that around Rs 70,000 crore would be given as central aid for the state. For the past four months, Drabu said, the Mufti government has been rigorously pursuing the case and very soon a formal announcement about the quantum of package shall be made by the union Finance Ministry. Sources however told Early Times that the state government is not privy to the actual amount likely to be given to J&K soon. “Discussions over central grant have been going on between the state and the union Finance Ministry for quite some time. Though the nod in this regard has been given by the Centre, so far no minister in the state government knows about minute details of the package,” said a senior official, pleading anonymity.
