Early Times Report

Srinagar, Sept 7: Even as Mehbooba Mufti-led government is struggling to restore normalcy in Kashmir, it appears that all is not well in the ruling PDP.
Sources said during the recent visit of the all-party delegation to Kashmir, the PDP leadership avoided consultation with some of the senior leaders from the party and that only a "close-group" was asked to meet the visiting delegates at the SKICC here.
Sources said ahead of the meeting with the all party delegation, two of the senior leaders, who happen to be Member Parliament, were not invited for consultation on as to what all needs to be discussed with the visiting delegates, on behalf of the party.
Interestingly another senior leader, who was minister in the first innings of the PDP-BJP alliance, was conspicuous for his absence at the meeting with the all party delegates. "Infact despite having been a senior leader he was not invited for the meeting with the visiting delegates whereas his juniors in the party including a former trade union leader were formally invited to represent the PDP before the all party delegation," the insiders said.
Insiders said while one of the MPs, who is against the alliance with the BJP, has long been seeking major change in the faces heading various ministries, the other one was equally unconvinced with the way the "immature PDP ministers", having no previous experience of politics, handled the crises.
The veteran members of the party believe that some of the inexperienced faces in the government only left the crises to fester out of their lack of experience. "Despite the reservations over the induction of immature faces into ministry, the party leadership continues to back such ministers and this is something which the old guards don't like," said a party insider.
Amid is "lack of trust" within the party circles, sources said the PDP president has been strictly banking on a "selected faces for consultation" over crucial matters to run the government in these testing times.
"Trust deficit has hit the party and unlike the previous times not all the prominent leaders are called for party consultations. All is not well in the party," the sources said.
