Kashmir unrest: BJP high command unhappy with its JK ministers | | | Ishtiyaq Ahmad Early Times Report SRINAGAR, Sept 7: As the BJP's central leadership discussed Kashmir situation in New Delhi on Tuesday, it is learnt that most of the leaders were not happy with the role played by the party ministers in Kashmir during the ongoing unrest. Highly placed sources told Early Times that BJP chief Amit Shah, Home Minister Rajnath Singh and some other top leaders of the party strongly feel that the JK leadership especially the BJP ministers have not done enough during the last two months in the Valley. "The top BJP leadership is not at all happy. The party president expressed dissatisfaction about the functioning of BJP ministers, saying their performance was not visible on the ground," sources said. They maintained that the central BJP leadership was serious about formulating a strategy to revive the peace in the Valley. Sources said that the party high command was informed that almost all legislators and ministers belonging to the BJP have fled from the Valley since the agitation started. "Though some ministers including Deputy Chief minister Nirmal Singh, Forest minister Lal Singh, PHE and Health minister Bali Bhagat occasionally arrive for an overnight stay but they leave immediately after finishing 'official work'," said sources. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley, Minister of State for PMO Jitendra Singh and BJP general secretary Ram Madhav were also present in the hour-long meeting. Sources said the party high command was mulling over initiating some steps on Kashmir to break the ice. Meanwhile, sources say that several leaders of the state have secretly expressed to the high command their unhappiness over the behaviour of the BJP leaders which they felt has damaged the government's image. Sources said the party President Amit Shah has viewed that ministers and state party leader's performance need to be result-oriented. "The central leadership was also of the opinion that in absence of any coordination between BJP and PDP ministers, political rivals have managed to exploit public sentiments against the PDP-BJP government," sources said. Sources added that the party top brass was also unhappy about the growing dissent in the party as several leaders were openly speaking against the functioning of the government. Party veteran and Member of the Legislative Council Ashok Khajuria had hit out at the Deputy Chief Minister for his controversial remarks on the killing of Burhan Wani, saying that the "BJP does not subscribe to the views of those who termed Burhan's elimination as an accident. He had also described the PDP and the BJP alliance as "unholy and unhealthy" and warned that any act of the ruling alliance damaging the interests of the country would be strongly opposed. Another party leader Ramesh Arora had also expressed his anguish over the style of functioning of party ministers. Sources added that Shah has also taken a strong exception to almost all the BJP leaders talking to media and putting forth their suggestions. "Another issue at which party high command expressed its displeasure was that everyone is trying to behave as the spokesman of the party," sources said. |
