Awake India. Time has now come to Act rather Mere Condemnation!
Ravinder Jalali2/12/2018 10:50:04 PM
Now the operation to eliminate terrorists holed up in Sunjwan Army camp in Jammu has ended as per reports coming in, by the time I am finishing this write up, there is need for introspection as where the things went wrong. This operation which lasted for more than 24 hours has finally ended up with elimination of all the four terrorists but sad to note that it has claimed the lives of five Army Jawans along with the father of a army personal besides injuring more than ten people. The positive thing about the operation is that terrorists could not escape but the more tragic is that they have been able to inflict deaths on the Indian soldiers.
In the wee hours yesterday three to four JeM terrorists entered the army Camp at Sunjwan in Jammu attacked the residential area thereby injuring three army men besides a small girl who is a daughter of an army personnel. Jaish-e-Mohammed, a terrorist organisation claimed the responsibility for the attack and said it is in the memory of Afzal Guru death anniversary. It is to remind here to the readers that the Afzal Guru was a parliament attack convict and was sentenced to death in 2013. Afzal Guru separatist, who was convicted for his role in the 2001 Indian Parliament attack. He received a death sentence for his involvement and was executed on 9 February 2013. Five Army personnel were martyred in the attack. Four Jaish-e-Mohammed terrorists breached the rear side of the Sunjwan camp of Army Brigade, barged into family quarters in the garrison and opened fire. The camp, which is spread over many acres of land, is located adjacent to several shopping arcades and on the by-pass in the heart of Jammu city.
Only a few days back one army officer of the rank of captain and three other Jawans were killed by the Pakistani Shelling in Rajouri in J&K. This is not a single or an isolated event. This has become a routine affair now. Such frequent attacks throws volley of questions on the preparedness of our forces to handle such crisis. Why India forces are at the receiving end of the conflict. Do we lack policy or Kashmir affairs? It seems that we as India lacks aggressiveness and believes in defence mechanism.
Though the operation has ended. There is condemnation from all the quarters and what more can be done. The statements like that "we have zero tolerance regarding terrorism and it is the frustration on the part of Pakistan and bla , bla, bla." all such rhetoric statements and remarks from ruling parties to opposition.
The interesting feature is that the state gets divided on the opinion about terrorist attack on Sunjiwan. Kashmir based parties irrespective of their ideology, whether separatist or mainstream even the ruling PDP will have pro-separtist and a sort of camouflage reaction to such an cowardly act while as the Jammu based front will condemn it out rightly and without if and but. Take the example of Dr. Abdullah, when he was asked by some journalist for the reaction on the killing of our army personnel in Rajouri , he immediately responded " Indian forces also fire. It is both ways". He seems to be justifying the killing of army personnel. There can be hundreds of examples but the fact is that they do not come out openly for the reasons best known to them. Recently a few days before when two people were killed in Shopian every body from valley stood by the stone pelters and blamed Indian army. When in the assembly , the BJP wanted to bring a resolution condemning the Pakistan for killing four defence personnel in Rajouri , Kashmir based parties including PDP did not support rather they wanted to have a resolution asking India to resort to dialogue. They are holding India as a hostage to India -Pakistan Dialogue. When the operation was still going on, BJP were condemning the Pakistan but to everyone's surprise, NC legislator Akbar Lone was seen shouting "Pakistan Zindabad" This is the level of support and patronage the terrorists and anti-national elements are getting by the political persons who are thriving on the state exchequer and the same army people come to their rescue.
Now the million dollar question is why so many attacks in quick succession and do we need not to have a comprehensive defence mechanism to counter such attacks. So far as the suicide attack is concerned we can under stand that it cannot be avoided but the person should vane no chance of escaping and then thee should be no or minimal loss from Indian side. It also raises question on the role of insiders who are pro-separatist or terrorist.
Has India become spineless in the wake of frequent terrorist attack on the security forces in J&K, despite the clear message from the Prime Minister Narindra Modi that the forces are free to bounce back in whatever manner they have to and whenever there is a need to do so. But the recent filing of FIR against army is discouraging and de-motivational for the army to act. If Army who is acting in a hostile atmosphere and then they are dragged into such controversies and the irony of the matter is the acts against army are supported by the government of J&K and not less than a Chief minster not defending the army and casting aspersions on the army. Whenever the stone pelting boys are confronted by the forces the politicians comes to their rescue by calling them innocent boys when they actually know that they are not. They know that these boys are not a part of an ordinary peaceful crowd protesting for some genuine cause. The youth carrying ISIS flags, raising Anti-India and Pro-Pak slogans and hurling stones and throwing grenades and petrol bombs on the security forces are not ordinary people. They are not even misguided youths.
The security forces are not to be used as cannon fodder but they are there to eliminate the enemy. The govt. seems to lack the basic spirit of wiping out the militancy. The Govt. must realise that it is the Indian Govt and Indian Govt only who has to fight this menace and no other power on earth can help us. We have not to make the sacrifice of our forces to maintain calm and peace in country but we have to use these forces to eliminate these perpetrators of crime.
They were concerned about those people who are attacking these forces with stones, grenades and petrol bombs and had no concern for thousands of their own forces. Is this the professionalism? When the forces will be attacked by the terrorists, how they will respond. Secondly we have to reconsider the policy of rehabilitation of stone pelters in Kashmir.
How long we continue to blame Pakistan for our failures? We can no longer brush aside by simply blaming Pakistan and escape responsibility. The Govt. can not absolve itself of its responsibility. We are not acting against terror but only reacting in a defensive manner. We believe in defence system and our enemy is taking advantage of it. It is high time for Govt. to wake up to the ground realities, stop blaming Pakistan and set the home in order as it seems that real problem is at Home and we are searching some where else.
