| At Shiv Khori, 'illegal' hotels, guesthouses fleece pilgrims | | |

REASI, Feb 12: Pilgrims visiting the revered Shiv Khori shrine in Pouni tehsil here are being fleeced by the "illegally-run " hotels and guesthouses while the government has been silent on the issue.
Scores of hotels and guesthouses, which have come up allegedly illegally in the area operate without requisite clearance from the tourism department for years.
While the facilities ties offered are 'extremely poor", the charges are exorbitant, the pilgrims said. Sources said the Tourism department officials have underhand dealing with the operators of these "illegal" establishments.
Sources said the Tourism department officials take regular "nazrana" from such establishments but at the cost of inconvenience faced the tourists.
"Neither the accommodation is proper nor food is good. I wonder how badly the government treats the pilgrims here," said a delegation of pilgrims from New Delhi.
One of the pilgrims from Mumbai said he visited the office of the tourism department to file complaint of being fleeced by a hotel operator but his complaint was trashed. "Instead to listening to my complaint the babus started to defend the erring hoteliers. This is disgusting," said the tourist.
Sources said there was a need for a vigilance probe to expose the muck created by the Tourism department.
A senior official in the Tourism department said the matter would be looked into.
Meanwhile the pilgrims have appealed the Prime Minister's Office and the Chief Minister of Jammu and Kashmir to look into the matter. |
