No action against seditious Lone: BJP loses another opportunity

Early Times Report
Jammu, Feb 12: As the budget session of the state legislature culminated on Monday, BJP lost another opportunity to establish its political assertiveness in the coalition government, by taking no action against the NC MLA and former speaker Mohd. Akbar Lone for making seditious statements on the floor of the House.
Many believe that an action under rules governing the conduct of the House against the MLA by the Speaker would have helped BJP establish its political authority in the state; But the party missed that opportunity when there was no discernable action against Lone who raised pro Pakistan slogans in the House when the Pakistani terrorists were killing the unarmed family members of our Jawans at Sunjwan.
While Lone was recorded on cameras justifying his treachery, Speaker did not even suspend him from the House for his condemnable and shameful utterings. "An action against Lone was imperative as he has been the Speaker of this august House, which makes his act more deplorable" said a college student who was privy to the ugly incident from the visitors' gallery.
Though the leadership of the National Conference not only alienated from the statement of its member, but also condemned it, the BJP failed to rise to the occasion and send a message to the people of the state that it had the power and the guts to act against the traitors. Interestingly, the Speaker succumbed to the pressure of the opposition and directed to expunge his own statement from the record wherein he had apprehended the hand of Rohingyas in Terror attack on Sunjwan brigade headquarters.
While Lone is an MLA of the Opposition NC, an MLA of the coalition partner PDP had termed terrorists as his brothers, but he too had gone scot free on his seditious statement made in the Assembly.
Political watchers are of the view that BJP would have made a strong political statement by acting against the seditious statements of these two MLAs, through the Chair. "An action against these MLAs under rules which govern the conduct of the proceedings of the House, would have helped BJP regain its lost ground in Jammu region, but the party leadership squandered the opportunity" averred a party functionary.
