JAMMU, Feb 12: The BJP members led by its legislator from Ramnagar today created uproar in State Legislative Assembly over the raising of pro-Pakistan slogans in the House by NC MLA from Sonawari on Saturday and demanded registration of FIR, sedition charges and criminal proceedings against him.
MLA Kathua, MLA Jammu (West), MLA Doda, MLA Marh, MLA RS Pura, MLA Bhaderwah, MLA Nowshera and others also come in support of MLA Ramnagar and demanded action against NC legislator from Sonawari for his anti-national stand.
Speaking over the issue, MLA Ramnagar said that such things have put the question mark on the credibility of the House. He said that earlier a member of the House demanded plebiscite in J&K and now another member raised pro-Pakistan slogans. He said that the Speaker being custodian of the House should file FIR against NC MLA besides should dismiss him from the membership of the House. He said that NC Working President and leader of the Opposition should come and explain his position.
NC MLA from Khanyar, who is also general secretary of the National Conference, said that Omar Abdullah had already cleared his stand over the issue.
"Did you feel we require the certificate of being nationalist from you people," NC MLA from Pahalgam shouted at agitating BJP members.
CPI (M) MLA from Kulgam said that J&K is passing through critical period where efforts are being made to divide the people on communal lines. He said that National Conference has a history of sacrifices adding that at the time when Speaker has already expunge the words from the official record, it is now unnecessary to raise and discuss such issues inside the House.
Deputy Speaker also intervened and requested both the sides not to give space to such issues and requested both the sides to allow functioning of the House on the last day of the session.
In between, some NC legislators brought Speaker's remarks and blamed the Speaker for provoking MLA Sonawari to raise pro-Pakistan slogans upon which the Speaker strongly reacted.
Speaker said that he made a statement which in no mean is anti-national, however, the act of NC MLA was anti-national and against the ethics of constitution.
As the heated arguments between the BJP and NC legislators continued, the Parliamentary Affairs Minister interrupted and requested the BJP members to take their seats. He said that the words had already been expunged from the official records and asked the agitating BJP members to end the matter.
Speaker again intervened and said that people learn from mistakes and hope that all the members of the House will rectify themselves and will not repeat such mistakes in future. The House later carried on with the question hour peacefully.
