New twist in heinous crime: Is another accused in Rassana case juvenile?
Defense counsel contests Crime Branch argument that Parvesh is adult
6/11/2018 11:27:38 PM
Early Times Report
Jammu, June 11: Even as Crime Branch of J&K Police has claimed that eighth accused in the Rassana case is not juvenile but an adult, debate has started over age of another accused Parvesh Kumar alias Munna. Crime Branch in its charge-sheet has made Parvesh as adult but defense counsel had contested before Judge Tejwinder Singh that Parvesh Kumar was a juvenile.
The Court had already asked the Crime Branch to file objections to the claims of defense counsel that Parvesh is juvenile and Crime Branch had committed a blunder by enlisting Parvesh in the list of adult accused in the Rassana case.
The Pathankot had already farmed charges against Sanji Ram, his son Vishal, Special Police Officers Deepak Khajuria alias Deepu and Surinder Verma, Parvesh Kumar alias Mannu, head constable Tilak Raj and sub-inspector Arvind Datta.
Sanji Ram is considered to be the main accused who is alleged to have hatched the conspiracy with other accused for kidnapping the girl as a carefully planned strategy to remove the minority nomadic community from the area.
The fate of the eighth accused, who is a juvenile and nephew of Sanji Ram, was yet to be decided after the Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police claimed that he was an adult.
But now the question has been raised over age of Parvesh Kumar also to whom the defense counsel has termed as juvenile at the time the crime was committed.
According to sources defense counsel has assessed a letter written by Principal Government Higher Secondary School, Ghagwal to DySP SIT in which age of Parvesh Kumar has been mentioned as 22-02-2000, which means on the day of crime he was not adult. Crime was committed on January 10, 2018 which means that Parvesh Kumar age was below 18 years at that time because as per school record he has completed age of 18 on February 22 this year.
In his letter number GHSS/ Ghagwal-2018/445 dated 10-3-2018, Principal of the school replied to the Crime Branch, "In reference to your letter No CBI/FIR/10-2018, the date of birth of Parvesh Kumar son of Ashok Kumar is 22-02-2018 ( Twenty Second of February Two Thousand Only) as per his matriculation certificate available in the school.
