Fearing militant attacks security beefed up across Kashmir | People move towards health resorts | | Javaid Naikoo
Srinagar, Aug 14: As militants struck hours before Independence Day celebrations, tension prevailed in across Kashmir followed by strict security check ups across Kashmir amid heavy rush of people towards tourist destinations. Following a militant attack in south Kashmir on Wednesday in which three people including two policemen and a civilian were killed, security was beefed up across Kashmir immediately after the incident, which according to police sources was carried out by militants of the Lashkar-e-Taiba. Earlier on Thursday a taxi was hijacked by Militants in Ramban District of Jammu division which was later recovered in south Kashmir's Shopian District. According to details received amid stone-pelting incidents, Kakapora and Awantipora observe a complete shutdown in memory of the Manzoor Ahmad Qasab who was killed near Galander Pampore when militants attacked a police party on Wednesday night. Pertinently militant also attacked a convoy in Pampore area on August 11 and following the frequent militants' attacks ahead of independence day, a three-tier security ring has been thrown around the Bakshi Stadium in Srinagar where the main parade will be held on Aug 15. Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah will unfurl the tricolour and take salute at the main parade at the stadium. Like many other sports stadiums of Kashmir, Bakshi stadium was also taken over by the security forces three days ago to avoid untoward incident ahead of Independence Day celebrations across Kashmir. Keeping in view the possible militant attacks on independence day, security forces have banned entry in Stadiums and have installed extra check points across Kahsmir on main roads and have also installed CCTV cameras inside and around the stadiums and other sensitive places across the Kashmir. Meanwhile, people were seen moving to health resorts to escape tension in the cities and towns. Senior separatist leaders have been placed under house arrest. |
