9/14/2014 11:24:31 PM
Rajouri, Sept 14 : Even as a few tonnes of rice, atta, sugar and other items were dropped at one place as relief in Rajouri district, it was alleged that no relief has so far reached Kalakote.
For the last 6 days hundreds of flood victims have been waiting for government relief in Kalakot, Budhal ,Khawas, Triyath, Thanamndi,Ghamir Muglan, Keri and other areas.
Rashpal Singh, MLA , Kalakot (NC) and Ashok Kumar Sharma, former Kalakot MLA(Congress) have alleged that no relief has reached in Kalakot constituency till today.
On the other hand officials at Deputy Commissioner office engaged in distribution of relief said that ration, tents, blankets, mattresses, clothes etc have already been distributed among 115 families who have been taking shelters in tents, school/government buildings. Who is speaking truth and who is lying is a matter of investigation but an official seeking anonymity said,"Under clear orders from higher authorities politicians will not be involved in the distribution of relief material to avoid taking political gains". After the Early Times carried a story in this regard, a helicopter was sent to Rajouri today and DDC and SSP could drop about hundred packets carrying 1/2 liter milk10 kg rice, 100 gms tea,1-kg sugar,5-kg atta etc, in Seri Hattan in Ghamhir Muglan area.
The relief couldn't be dropped to the worst affected flood victims in Khawas, Kotranka areas due to the alleged lack of coordination between district officers and those who had to distribute relief among the victims."The relief couldn';t be dropped at Khawas and in some areas in Kotranka tehsil today. Tomorrow another attempt would be made if the chopper was made available otherwise it will be sent toTehsildar , Kotranka who will further send it to police and other concerned officials for distributions among the victims" said DDC. The Chopper today returned from Budhal along with relief material. Zulfikar , MLA Dasrhal has appreciated the efforts of district administration in the distribution of relief but he lambasted the State Government for not providing immediate financial as well as material help to the district administration till today.
"Flood victims in Darhal constituency are looking for immediate help but the government has failed to provide any relief while on the other hand district administration has been providing relief available through their resources" he said. Mohd Sayeed Mughal, Chairman JK Human Development Forum said that,as the rescue operations are progressing in the whole state, the inhabitants of the Ghambir Mughlan (Manjakot tehsil) villages are living in terrible circumstances.
The only road connecting these villages to the rest of state from Ghulati to Ghalla is completely damaged because of landsliding and poor road railing.
" Electric wires are lying on the ground, mobile service is out of service. Crops washed away and every house was badly damaged and many of them collapsed due to heavy rainfall and landsliding" he said. People have taken shelters in primary health center, Ghambir Mughlan, and in government.schools.
