Early Times Report

Srinagar, Nov 30: Despite the tall claims by Srinagar Municipal Corporation of undertaking successful sanitization after the floods dozens of public parks across the summer capital lie un-cleaned, with muck and dirt still lying there for months' altogether.
Heaps of garbage could be seen accumulated in most of the public parks of city while many famous parks await sanitization, bringing immense inconvenience for the commuters and park visitors.
"There are several parks in the city that are still filled with mud and dust. The authorities are not paying any heed to clean these parks. Nobody can visit these parks. It is also creating problem for the people who live near these parks as foul smell and dust is coming from these parks and if it is not noticed, it will spread epidemic," said GulzarBukhari, a resident of LalChowk.
Locals allege that since September floods, the muck and garbage is lying in these parks, with the fencing getting completely destroyed and authorities don't bother to clean them and build up the walls.
"The floods brought down the fencing of these parks and accumulated garbage inside. From greenery its colour has now changed to black and dusty. We were the frequent visitors but now, it is just a waste land," said a group of youth outside the Iqbal Park.
Not only dozens of public parks but the famous Sher-I-Kashmir Cricket Stadium at Sonwar also lies un-cleaned with tens of vehicles outside the ground rusting.
When contacted Chief Sanitation Officer Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Manzoor Ahmad Taray said, "We have assumed the process of cleaning those parks who wanted our help. We are not concerned about cleaning the parks; we just look after the cleaning of roads and streets. There are employees in these parks who look after its management and cleaning purposes and if they ask us to clean them, we will surely take the necessary action."
Meanwhile the employees at several public parks in the city say that since the garbage in the parks is in abundant quantity, it is impossible to clean it up without the help of machines.
"There are heaps of mud and garbage; it is not possible to clean it up without the help of machines. We have approached SMC authorities several times to seek their help, but they are just passing the buck and parks lie dirty," said an employee at a public park wishing anonymity.
