Early Times Report

Jammu, Jan 24: Coming it as another bolt from the blue for the state Bhartiya janta Party, out of elected 25 MLAs for the legislative assembly, none of them may get a ministerial berth post coalition formation in the state.
They are very much likely to be replaced by a coterie of BJP MLCs elected in the Council after the government comes into formation in coalition with People Democratic Party.
In the present bustle over Rajya Sabha mutual arrangement between BJP and PDP which is trading all horses to clinch all four seats falling vacant in the Upper House of Parliament, the grapevine in the state political corridors of BJP have sent an indication that post alliance, party may take a diverse decision to rope in MLCs first, later to elevate them as ministers rather than taking any MLA, none one among them, the party thinks worth to be a minister in the governance.
The new dictum, as per the sources privy to the developments within the party, say, has generated commotion among the MLAs, many of them, who after their win in the respective constituencies were aspiring to clinch ministerial berths in the coalition. As the road to assembly as a minister for BJP MLA seemingly ends, the hunt for worthy faces to be inducted as MLCs to raise them in coronation as ministers have started.
"This is not a new plan. The effect to it was already given pre-elections and even before the distribution of tickets to the candidates and mission 44+ given by Narinder Modi. Having already understood that the party is devoid of any face having strong political background, learned people like advocates, retired police personnel, doctors, bureaucrats and others were joined in the party for services at the right time. Party satiated the desires of long awaiting aspirants to become MLAs and for running government in coalition (as it was quite pre-empted by it not to be getting the majority and ultimately going in coalition) saved the new learned entrants to run the show," sources informed.
As per this development as four names viz Ashok Khajuria, Shamsher Singh Manhas, Kuldeep Gupta and Rtd DIG Farooq Khan have been shortlisted for two nominations in RS, Ashok Khajuria has got the green signal, while the greater probability of one among the three is of Kuldeep Gupta.
For nomination of MLCs to be picked up, advocate Sunil Sethi, Amirakadal loser Hina Bhat and RS dropout Farooq Khan stand the brightest chance.
Deputy Chief Minister, if from BJP, has two Singhs making rounds for it. Billawar winner Nirmal Singh is contender if MoS PMO Jitender Singh refuses.
However the sources also do not deny that two time MLAship winners like Sham Choudhary and Sukhnandan Choudhary could be denied their chances into the ministerial bandwagon, but the final seal on it again is held with the "High Command".
" This is quite unfair. If such thing happens, it will create revolt in the cadre. Already we, the MLAs after having won our constituencies are reduced to pawns only in the hands of the central leadership. This pronouncement would go adverse to the party and develop deeper cleavage in the cadre," said an apparently sounding offended MLA who said not to quote him officially.
The good thing that has happened after the 'high command's' diktat to BJP and its MLAs not to speak to media has given them a break from routine to speak their hearts out 'on condition of anonymity'.
