Early Times Report

NEW DELHI, Feb 14: Turning tables on State Core Committee BJP High Command returned the list of candidates who were short-listed by the Party here on Friday and submitted to Central leadership for finalization.
According to sources the Party High Command while going through the list of candidates has returned the same to State Unit with the remarks that the same should come through Election Committee. Sources said that some leaders in the State unit who were in the race for mandate in Legislative Council elections contacted senior leaders in Delhi and informed them about the facts. They told the Party leadership that the deserving Partymen who were not given mandate in Assembly elections in various constituencies and in whose place some outsiders were given tickets on the promise that they will be accommodated in Upper House have not been included in the list short -listed during Party Core Committee meeting.
Expressing their resentment these activists made it clear to party High Command that such a decision will made the position of Party awkward in the State and the same will boomerang, sources said. These activists also made it clear to Central leadership that the same blunder was done in Delhi elections which annoyed the Party workers and resulted into its complete rout, sources added.
Sources said that some senior leaders of the State unit including former MLAs also contacted the High Command expressing their resentment about the list and demanded that the same should come through Election Committee which is the only Constitutional body of the Party to vet the list and submit the same to High Command for approval.
It may be recalled that four prominent members of Core Committee including Party president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma, Union Minster in PMO, Dr Jitendra Singh, MP from Ladakh Thupstan Chewwang and former MLA Ashok Khajuria too were not present in the yesterday's meeting. Sources said the Party High Command has issued directives to BJP organizational general secretary in the State to convene the meeting of 15 member Election Committee to review the list and include the names of those candidates who have agreed to stay out from contest in recently held assembly elections by leaving party seats to other candidates.
