Early Times Report

Jammu, Feb 14 : Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) Saturday announced its candidates for five out of 11 seats of the upper house, the elections for which are scheduled to be held on March2.
PDP has left one seat in valley for its ally the BJP and in return has nominated its candidate for one Jammu seat. The two parties will also get one seat each from Ladakh.
According to the party sources, PDP today nominated Saifuddin Bhat, Yasir Reshi, Javed Mirchal and Surrinder Choudhary. The party is yet to decide its candidature for Kargil seat.
Saifuddin contested two elections of 2008 and 2014 unsuccessfully against PDP chairman Hakim Mohammad Yasin from Khansahib constituency in Budgam district. Both time Bhat lost to Hakim by a thin margin.
Similarly Yasir Reshi contested two elections on PDP ticket from Sonawari constituency in Bandipora district but lost to Mohammad Akbar Lone of National Conference. Javed Mirchal, a new comer, is from Karnah and it is believed that he was instrumental in PDP's win from that constituency.
Surrinder Choudhar alias Foji contested from Nowshera constituency in Rajouri district and conceded defeat by a very thin margin of votes.
According to the sources the PDP left one seat from Kashmir valley and one seat of Leh for its partner the BJP.
Sources said that BJP is likely to announce its candidates this evening or early tomorrow.
Meanwhile the two parties that placed first and second in the recent state assembly elections - have reached an agreement that helps bridge the gap between them on issues that are key for the state including Article 370, which gives Kashmir special status under the constitution.
The Chief Minister of the state will be PDP leader Mufti Mohammed Saeed, who is 79. The BJP, as the junior partner, will get the post of Deputy Chief Minister for its 59-year-old leader Nirmal Singh, said sources.
The partnership is to be announced next week, after which the coalition will approach Governor NN Vohra to stake its claim to form the government.
The election was held nearly two months ago.
