Inter- College Seminar on 'Save the Girl Child' held

Udhampur, Feb 14: To generate awareness among masses on the issue of female foeticide, an inter collegiate seminar and a film on "Save the Girl Child" was organized by Department of Information & Public Relations, Udhampur in collaboration with Kalra College of Education, Udhampur in the college premises here today .
Chief Medical Officer, Udhampur , Dr. Arun Sharma was the chief guest on the occasion.
As many as 8 students from four different colleges including Govt. College for Women, Kalra College of Education, Bhartiya College of Education and Shivalik College of Education participated in the seminar.
Sugandhi for Govt. College for Women was adjudged best speaker while Manisha Sharma from Bhartiya College of Education and Mohd. Majnu from the host college remained second and third best speaker respectively in the seminar.
While speaking on the occasion, Sharma urged upon the need for creating wide awareness among the masses about the sin of female foeticide and called for strict implementation of Pre-Conception and Pre-Natal Diagnostic Techniques (PC & PNDT) Act. It was stressed to impart moral education to the students right from the primary stage to develop a society free from social evils.
Expressing his great concern over declining sex ratio in the state, Dr. Sharma hoped that such programmes would go a long way to spread a message among the people and help to make a healthy society .
During the seminar awareness lecture was also delivered by the Deputy Chief Warden Civil Defence, Advocate Swatantar Dev Kotwal and urged upon the student to spread the awareness among the general people in their surrounding for uprooting the menace of female foeticide from the society. Principal of host college thanked the Information Department for organizing a valuable seminar on save the girl child in our school and said that such programmes should be held on regular basis in future to aware the general masses.
