JAMMU, Feb 23: Following the guidelines of the Government of India and State Sports Council, the Volleyball Association of Jammu and Kashmir (VAJK) today unanimously elected young Sidharth Daluja as new president replacing Raj Daluja from the coveted post after a gap of 20 years. The general council meeting of the Association that took place here today also elected Vijay Kumar Magotra as new honorary general secretary in place of Kuldeep Raj Magotra. Ramesh Chander Sharma was also unanimous choice for the post of treasurer. However, Raj Daluja has been elevated to the post of patron in chief while Sudershan Gupta has been made patron of the VAJK. The outgoing general secretary, Kuldeep Magotra has been made Chief Executive Officer (CEO) while former treasurer, Hardeep Singh Gill has been named executive vice president of the Association. Soon after his elected to the top post, Sidharth assured the members of renewed efforts to rejuvenate volleyball in the state with special focus in the rural districts. He sought cooperation from the members in promoting the game so as to bring improve results at the national level. Earlier, outgoing general secretary presented a detailed report before the delegates and representatives from various district units and affiliated clubs. He also named those individuals, who represented the state at national and international level as an administrator, technical official and player. The new CEO made a special mention about young Pooch boy, Saqlin Tariq, who has represented India in the 11th Youth Asian Volleyball Championship held at Colombo in Sri Lanka last year. Earlier, the Association felicitated veteran volleyball players, Sudershan Gupta and Master Puran Singh for their contributions towards the game. Later, newly elected president honoured young international player from J&K, Saqlin Tariq and presented him with a cash prize of Rs 10,000. The election meeting was monitored by Ashutosh Sharma and Siddharth Sharma as observers from J&K Olympic Association and State Sports Council. The Volleyball Federation of India (VFI) was represented by Sube Singh.
