| BJP top brass asks new entrants to stop 'dreaming big' | | 'Reach out to people, refrain from providing wrong feedback' | | Fazal Khan

SRINAGAR, Feb 23: As the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) are all set to form the new dispensation in Jammu and Kashmir the new entrants in the BJP especially from Kashmir region have been reportedly told by the BJP top brass to stop "dreaming big" and refrain from providing wrong feedback to the party leaders sitting in the national capital.
Sources told Early Times that many BJP leaders from Kashmir who were camping in Jammu and New Delhi for the past two months have returned to the Valley "empty handed" as all their efforts to get a chance to contest either the Rajya Sabha polls or the MLC elections failed to yield any results. "The BJP leaders from Kashmir who had shown big dreams to the party high command were snubbed by the BJP top brass this time around and were told in clear terms to work towards establishing BJP's base in the Valley," sources said.
They said the new entrants in the BJP tried their best to persuade the party high command to give them some role after the new dispensation is sworn in. "BJP top brass has made it clear to them (party leaders) that they should refrain from providing wrong feedback and should focus on reaching out to people rather than eyeing top positions," sources added.
A BJP insider said that many Kashmiri leaders were hoping that party would give new faces a chance and they would get strong political positions even without contesting the Assembly polls. A few defeated candidates were hoping that they would be get an opportunity to contest the forthcoming Legislative Council polls but all their dreams have been shattered as the party high command wants to ensure that Jammu region gets complete representation in the new cabinet as Kashmir would be represented by the PDP. "The BJP leaders from Kashmir who till the recent past were hoping to become a part of the government through backdoor are a disappointed lot," he said.
A BJP leader while talking to Early Times said: "Our first and foremost duty is to live upto the expectations of the people who voted for us in the Assembly polls. BJP bagged 25 seats out of 37 from the Jammu region and failed to open its account in the Valley despite new entrants indulging in big talks. Now the same leaders, who failed to reach out to the people in Kashmir, are making all the possible attempts to reap the benefits of power."
The leader said that BJP top brass has made it clear to them that they have to either "perform or perish" and they have to prove themselves first and then demand. "A few BJP leaders who were hoping to somehow sneak into power corridors would have to first prove themselves as foot soldiers. They throwing tantrums is not going to help their cause," the leader added.
Sources said the BJP leaders from Kashmir region have assured the party high command that they would try to do their best and they should be considered for "bigger roles" in future. "At this point of time nothing can be done. You can't take the party hostage as you have no stakes. Work on ground level first then we will see," the BJP top brass is understood to have told the BJP leaders. |
