JAMMU, Feb 23: Pakistan, which is recognized the world over as a failed and rogue state, as also as the epicenter of global terrorism, doesn't recognize any of the political parties which are active in Jammu & Kashmir. Nor does it recognize the fact that the people in the 2014 Lok Sabha and Assembly elections voted in large numbers to elect the representatives through whom they wanted themselves to be represented in the Lok Sabha and Assembly. It only recognizes the Hurriyat leaders as the "true representatives of the people of Jammu & Kashmir". And it said so only the other day while denying visa to PDP chief spokesperson Nayeem Akhtar.
Which Hurriyat Conference Pakistan talks about or refers to? Does it refer to the Hurriyat Conference of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq? Or, does it refer to the Hurriyat Conference of Syed Ali Shah Geelani? What about the JKLF of Yasin Malik, the murderer and a pauper-turned-multi-millionaire? And, what about the Jammu & Kashmir Democratic Freedom Party (JKDFP) of Shabir Shah, a pauper-turned-multi-millionaire? Islamabad doesn't refer to any one of them. It only says that the Hurriyat Conference is the true representative of the people of the state.
Which are the areas of influence and activities of Mirwaiz Umar Farooq, Geelani, Malik and Shah? All these self-styled freedom fighters, who are actually mercenaries of first order and who live like rajas and maharajas at the cost of common Kashmiri Muslims, have no influence whatsoever in Jammu province and Ladakh region, which together constitute over 88 per cent of the state's land area and house more than half of the state's population. The people of both these regions, barring a few fanatics and disgruntled elements here and there, are religiously committed to India and they vehemently oppose such demands as greater autonomy and so on. They want the state's full merger with India and the application of the Indian Constitution to the state in full, barring those Articles which bar the Government of India from introducing Central laws on their own like in other states of the Union. The parties the people of these two regions voted for during the Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in 2014 established once and for all that they are nationalist to the core and that they yearn for closer ties with New Delhi and for peace, dignity and full empowerment within India and under the Indian Constitution.
So, who do the Mirwaiz, Geelani, Yasin and Shah, respectively, represents, or which are their areas of influence? The Mirwaiz has some following in the downtown area or the area around Jamia Masjid, Srinagar. Geelani's writ does not run even in Sopore, which elected a Congress leader to the Assembly in the just-held Assembly elections. He might have a pocket or two in the Hyderpora locality of Srinagar. Malik, everyone knows, has some influence in parts of the Maisuma locality in Srinagar. And, as for Shah, he has no area of influence anywhere in the Kashmir Valley. Sometimes he flirts with Geelani and sometimes with Mirwaiz.
More importantly, Geelani, Mirwaiz and Malik are not even on talking terms. They, in fact, hate each other and work against each other. They run their money minting shops independently. They do not see eye to eye with each other and nor are they committed to what they term as the Kashmiri cause. The fact is that they work at cross purposes and promote their own selfish interests. That there is no unity among these so-called true representatives of the people of Jammu & Kashmir could be seen from what the self-styled chairperson of Dukhtaran-e-Millat and general secretary of Hurriyat (G) Muhammad Ashraf Sehrai said on Saturday. Both urged the separatists like Geelani, Mirwaiz, Malik and others of their ilk to join hands against India and promote the Kashmiri cause. "India has been using all means to break the resolve of Kashmir and even change Muslim majority status of the state to suppress ongoing freedom movement. Since 1947, some Kashmiris have been helping India to suppress aspirations of Kashmiris. Sheikh Abdullah (NC founder) strengthened ties with India by inking accord with Indira Gandhi. Time is ripe for Kashmiris and separatists to shun any differences and work together for the just cause," Sehrai, for instance, said.
And this is the Hurriyat Pakistan recognize. It's time for New Delhi to isolate them and bring them to justice for the crimes they have committed against the Indian State and the people of the state. They are not the representatives of the people of the state; they are the self-appointed representatives recognized by Pakistan whose agenda is sinister.
