Early Times Report

BUDGAM, Feb 23: The picturesque Beerwah area in this Central Kashmir district once a choice for the film directors, presents a very shabby look as the road connectivity is poorest of the poor. It has added to the already existing miseries of the people of the area.
It will be in place to mention here that the shooting of 'Mr. Natwarlal' a famous Hindi movie was conducted in this beautiful hilly area. Going by the present day condition of this area, one fails to believe whether it is the same place where the shooting of the famous Hindi movie was done.
"Elders say that the area presented a splendid view and the road connectivity in those days was better than what it is today. In the last 25 years this area has been totally neglected by the successive governments," said Javaid Ahmad from Yatipora, which falls on the Beerwa-Aarizal road.
If the stars like Amitabh Bachhan, who played the role of hero in Mr. Natwarlal, happens to visit this area, he will definitely argue that it is not the same place where the shooting took place, Javaid went on saying.
The Beerwah area is full of tourism potential, with the splendid beauty due to majestic snow clad mountains, lush green forests and milky springs that offer water of great medicinal value. It is quite surprising that even during the last four decades or so, the area couldn't get face lift.
"Once you start journey on Sonpah-Aarizal road, you are virtually traveling through the paradise and the beauty of the areas like Khag and Aarizal, which are in the lap of majestic mountains, is sure to touch your heart. But the poor condition of the roads has taken the sheen off these naturally blessed areas," said Ghulam Mohi-ud-Din from Zanigam.
Mohi-ud-Din is of the opinion that had this area been developed, it would have drawn a huge rush of the tourists, domestic as well as foreign. As per him, it would have given all the required taste to adventure lovers from all over the world.
Significantly, this road, which is in dilapidated condition, while passing through beautiful places leads to one of the mesmerizing, places namely 'Doodpathri'. This road is short cut to this wonderful place.
"If the government had no intentions to repair this vital road as a relief providing measure, the place of great tourism importance was enough reason to get it improved. It would have certainly helped people to improve in every respect," said Khursheed Ahmad from Beerwah while sharing his ideas with the Early Times.
That is the reason people of the areas prefer to travel on horses even in the modern age because the condition of the roads demands so from them, added Khursheed.
