Early Times Report

JAMMU, Mar 2: The return formula authored for the displaced Kashmiri Pandits by BJP led Union Government has come under criticism from none else than Kashmiri Pandits after the Party failed to give representation to the community in council of ministers in the State.
There is a lot of resentment among the Kashmiri Pandits scattered all over the country after their mass exodus in 1989-90 over the BJP's role and for the community Party has not proved better than Congress, National Conference and Peoples Democratic Party.
The majority of KPs feel that the process started by Ghulam Nabi Azad as Chief Minister by not giving representation for the first time to this miniscule minority in Council of Ministers was continued during the six year rule of Omar Abdullah Government. This trend has now been continued in PDP-BJP coalition also showing that Pandits are not any priority for BJP too.
Kashmiri Pandits who had many expectations from BJP feel totally dejected with the role of the Party towards the community despite the fact that many KP leaders were killed by terrorists for having links with BJP and RSS during 1989-90.
Kashmiri Pandits, who feel dejected and deprived, are of the view that they too have been given a raw deal by BJP, the Party whom the Pandits trusted most.
According to Pandits the KPs were part of Government since the Sheikh Abdullah assumed power in 1947 and the community stalwarts including Sham Lal Saraf, Kashap Bandhu, D P Dhar, Manohar Nath Kaul, Makhan Lal Fotedar, Mohan Krishan Tickoo, P L Handoo, Khem Lata Wakhloo and Raman Matoo. But after Ghulam Nabi Azad took over as the Chief Minister in 2005, he dropped Raman Matoo from Council of ministers after pruning his ministry. Later when Omar Abdullah took as chief Minister and framed a coalition with Congress he also did not give place to any KP member in his council of ministry despite the promises made by the former Chief Minister and his father Dr Farooq Abdullah.
Though Pandits were hopeful this time that BJP will break this trend by sticking to the formula Sab ka Saath and Sab ka Vikas as promised by PM Narinder Modi it too betrayed the community.
This way the government's claims on Pandits return are totally hollow as when government is not ready to give political empowerment to them and give a feeling in the corridors of government that KPs were also a part and parcel of this society how can the return and rehabilitation formula will be meaningful.
