Deadly accident claims 3 lives in Budgam district, dozens injured

SRINAGAR, Mar 20: Three persons lost their lives while as more than two dozen others were injured in a deadly mishap in the Palpora area of Central Kashmir's Budgam district. Condition of some of the injured is stated to be critical.
Reports said that the driver of a passenger bus bearing registration number JK02L 1677 lost control over the vehicle early in the morning while negotiating a curve in the Palpora area.
As the driver lost control over the bus it rammed into a Chinar tree with a big bang. The bus on its way to Srinagar from Raithan bore the brunt of the mishap and the passengers suffered serious injuries.
All the persons who lost their lives in the accident belonged to the Budgam district with two among them living in the Gurweth area. The deceased have been identified as Ghulam Hassan Bit son of Ali Mohammad resident of Gurweth-Khan Sahib, Manzoor Ahmad Sheikh son of Mohammad Sultan resident of Hasegund-Khan Sahib and Aijaz Ahmad Lohar son of Abdul Gani resident of Gurweth-Khan Sahib.
Reports said that all the injured persons were shifted to the Budgam hospital for treatment in the first instance. However, the seriously injured persons were shifted to the hospitals in Srinagar for advanced treatment. Some reports said that two persons died on the spot while as the third one passed away in a Srinagar hospital.
As soon as the news of the accident got flashed people of the different villages converged at the site of the accident. It was due to the help of the locals that injured persons could be shifted to the hospitals in quick time. A pall of gloom descended on the people living in the different villages of the Khan Sahib as soon as the news spread that three persons have died in the accident.
The bodies of the deceased were handed over to their relatives for performing the last rites. Thousands of people took part in the funeral prayers of the deceased and they were given a tearful send off by the villagers. The mood was sombre and sad in the different villages of Khan Sahib area following the accident.
A police spokesman said three persons died while scores were injured when a passenger bus bearing registration number JK02L/1677 on way from Raithan to Srinagar skidded off the road near Palpora in the jurisdiction of police station Budgam.
The spokesman said that all the injured have been shifted to Srinagar hospitals for treatment. He said that Police has registered a case in this regard and investigations have been initiated.
