Jammu, Mar 20 : Led by international cricketer, Parvez Rasool, Strikers XI defeated Ram Dayal's Challengers XI by 31 runs on the last day of the trial matches for the forthcoming North Zone Twenty20 Tournament at New Delhi from March 24. Batting first, Strikers XI set a target of 172 runs for five wickets, which, in reply, Challengers could not chase and exhausted their quota of overs for 140 runs losing eight wickets. Parvez played fine innings of 50 runs off 41 balls while Bandeep Singh batted equally good adding unbeaten 39-ball 49 runs. Obaid Haroon (24 off 14 balls) and Adil Reshi (22) were other main contributors to the total. From Challengers, Ram Dayal (4-0-36-2) bowled impressive spell taking two wickets while Abid Nabi, Vishwajeet Singh and Amir Aziz shared apiece each. Later, Challengers XI could not maintain the required run rate and completed given overs for 140 runs with two wickets in hand. Jatin Wadhwan made 47-ball 58 runs while Hardeep and Abid Nabi added 30 and 11 runs respectively. Sahil Sharma (4-0-17-3), Wasim Raza (4-1-14-2) and Mohd Muddasir (4-0-26-1) were the wicket takers. Meanwhile, in another trial match, Chairman XI registered 10 runs win against President XI. Earlier, Chairman XI made 137 runs for four wickets. Usman Pandit played brilliant innings of 51-ball 70 runs. Raman Dutta (20), Parveen Singh (17) and Manish Dogra (16) were other scorers. Vijay Dogra and Aamir Sofi took one wicket each. In reply, President XI completed 20 overs making 127 runs losing six wickets. Zahoor Sofi (42 off 33 balls) was main scorer, followed by Pranav Gupta and Vijay Dogra, who added 30 and 16 runs respectively. From Chairman XI, Rahil Singh (4-0-26-2) and Satish (4-0-20-2) remained most successful bowler while Umar Nazir and Sourav Chopra shared apiece each. Selectors to name team tomorrow Meanwhile, the penal of selectors, comprising, Qayoom Channa, Ashvinder Koul and Shahid Parvez and Asif Peerzada shall name the 16-member team tomorrow. "The team will be announced tomorrow and the boys shall depart for the venue at Delhi on March 22 to play five back to back matches with first being against host Delhi on March 24," said one of the selectors, Ashvinder Koul said. |
