JAMMU, Mar 20 : The department of Legal Metrology intensified their inspections in Jammu Province to protect the interest of consumers against the exorbitant pricing, self marking of MRP on consumable goods, sale of goods without bills and overcharging from the consumers. A Team of officers conducted extensive inspection of two leading Boutiques Fashion Fortune and Appearance in Gandhi Nagar area to enforce the mandatory declarations required for the information of the consumers. On Inspection team found marking of self made MRPs on all the saleable goods of stitched clothes, ladies purses belts, artificial jewellary, Lahanga and other ladies dresses and items at exorbitant rates as per comparison with the available bills present on the spot. The rate list for chargeable stitching was also not displayed for the information of consumers. All such items were seized and seizure memo was issued as per the provision of law. Meanwhile the department continued to carried out inspections in other districts, Asstt Controller Samba Ms Anita Sharma booked Resturant and other two traders in Jakh area siimillarily Asstt Controller Udhampur, Doda, Kistwar Ramban, Poonch too carried out inspections of Wine shops, dairy, banks, Dhabhas and other traders dealing with goods of daily use of consumers, a total of 118 inspections were carried out, out of which 21 cases were booked and a sum of Rs 31000 was recovered as a composition money from the defaulters with a warning not to indulge in unscrupulous trading practices to cheat the consumers, failing which action as warranted under law will be initiated as a case of regular defaulter. |
