Jammu, Apr 24: National Conference Patron Dr Farooq Abdullah on Friday shamed his son and former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah for deplorable condition of Khanabal-Srinagar patch of National Highway.
Farooq however accused PDP, calling the highway ‘bone breaking’.
Senior Abdullah, who preferred to visit Anantnag by train from Srinagar to condole the demise of his party leader and former Minister Haji Abdul Gani Veeri-father of MLC Syed Bashir Ahmad Veeri, ironically blamed PDP led collation government for the messy condition of the road.
"Pathetic condition of highway forced me to travel in train from Srinagar. It takes three to four hours to cover the distance which is only one hour journey," Abdullah told reporters at Anantnag Railway station.
Blaming two months old government for the shabby condition of the road, Farooq said, "It is unfortunate that the government has failed to restore the glory of the road and due to its pathetic condition people are facing problems," When asked what his government did for the national highway in past five years, Abdullah admitted that they did nothing.
"Yes we did nothing now Mufti will do everything," he said.
Few commuters who were present on the railway station ridiculed Farooq Abdullah for blaming PDP-led collation Government. "It's surprising he (Farooq Abdullah) blamed new government. Shabby condition of the road Is because of his son (Omar Abdullah) who failed to get it blacktopped from the company executing multi crore project," Shabir Ahmad, a Batengoo resident said.
Pertinently, former Chief Minister Omar Abdullah during his tenure failed to grill the Hyderabad based Ramky Infrastructure Ltd.
The company in Omar Abdullah's regime failed to complete the 4-lanning of Srinagar-Jammu National highway and missed several deadlines. This sub-project by NHAI, as per new deadline, is to be completed by June 2015.
