Govt to make physical education compulsory in schools

JAMMU, Apr 24: Jammu and Kashmir government is planning to introduce physical education as a "compulsory stream" from class 6 to 8 in every school from the 2015-16 session.
The department will also introduce physical education as a compulsory stream for 9 and 10 standard students from the 2016-17 session, State Minister for Youth Services and Sports, Imran Raza Ansari said during a review meeting of his department here today.
He said that his department is also planning to construct a sports complex each at every Panchayat block in the state.
"One block level sports complex comprising indoor and outdoor sports hall will be developed in each block and 143 panchayat blocks of the state will be covered over a period of five years", he said.
He said that 37.5 acres of land has been acquired for construction of buildings for government Physical Education College at Gadroora-Ganderbal. The college would come up at an estimated cost of Rs 30.39 crore out of which Rs 18.75 crore has been advanced to Jammu and Kashmir Projects Construction Corporation.
