| Tanzania Ministerial delegation calls on Dr Jitendra | | |  Early Times Report
New Delhi, Apr 24: A delegation from Zanzibar-Republic of Tanzania led by its Minister for Labour and Public Services/Personnel & Training, Haroun Ali Suleiman today called on Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances,Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr Jitendra Singh at his office and discussed issues related to governance and personnel management on which the two countries could exchange inputs.
The members of the delegation included Tanzania Minister of State (MoS) Labour and Public Services/Personnel & Training, Yakout H. Yakout, Secretary Zanzibar-Tanzania Public Service Commission, Mtoro Almas Ali and Counsellor in Tanzania High Commission in New Delhi Yahya A Mhata.
During the twenty minutes long interaction, the Tanzanian Minister Haroun Ali Suleiman expressed his wish to initiate a process of exchange of officers and civil servants between the two countries for training and internship programmes. He also suggested setting up of a small committee of personnel experts from the two countries which could help Zanzibar-Tanzania in improving its public services including the civil services known as "Zanzibar Public Services".
Tanzania Minister also referred to the "Institute of Public Service" in his country which was engaged in training the bureaucrats and expressed his desire to learn from the Indian experience.
Dr Jitendra Singh assured the Tanzanian Minister Haroun Ali Suleiman that Government of India would be glad to help the Republic of Tanzania from its experience in governance and personnel management.
He said, India has a rich and a long cherished legacy of civil services which is possibly among the best in the world.
Dr Jitendra Singh informed the Tanzanian delegation that while our IAS and allied service officers are regular visitors to some of the most advanced education centres of the world including Harvard and Cambridge, at the same time, after the taking over of the present government under Prime Minister Narendra Modi, during the last ten months we have had groups of civil services trainees from some of the most advanced European and American countries visiting us to learn from our experience. He referred to a recent visit by a group of scholars and researchers from Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT), Cambridge, who were on an internship to our Department of Personnel & Training (DoPT) and went back highly impressed by the manner in which our bureaucracy had proved itself capable of managing governance effectively in a country as heterogeneous as India. |
